Learn about using academic scrapbooking with motivation-to-retention
"Think left, and think right; and think low, and think high. Oh the things you can think up
if only you try." -Dr. Seuss
Welcome to Scrapbooks That Teach tm , the website devoted to assisting children to
make more meaning of the activites they engage in. When students see themselves
interacting with their world in a positive manner, they are more likely to retain that
experience. Scrapbooks that Teachtm is committed to providing a research-based
educational program using creative visuals with meaningful activities that is based on an instructional model. Called academic scrapbooking, it is a copyright process for
children, pre-K-12, to respond to their world by being part of it through the photos they take.
To capture the memories of remembering, they make scrapbook-like pages known as
scraPPages tm . For the classroom, scraPPagestm are gradable and I use a rubric.
My use of academic scrapbooking in the classroom has resulted in enthusiastic students
who remember what is being taught! I have used this approach since 1997. See if your
students have similar results in this motivation-to-retention approach. For home, we think that children will be better off exercising their brain muscle without knowing it and we have created the Home Play Workshop using the same research-based principles.
