Everywhere students are asking for a more personalized connection to the curriculum and more meaningful activities.  In teacher talk this is motivation and retention. Try out our free scraPPage tm tutorial to see how creative visuals will answer your questions about how to effectively engage children to take them from motivation-to-retention.

Heidi Willard, known as Teacher-Scrapper, is a pioneer in the field of academic scrapbooking for students. Using academic scrapbooking as the instructional approach for Motivation-to-Retention, Heidi has created an integrative approach that merges the best practices of teaching with that of scrapbooking in the classroom to build personal experiences for all children. Children use photos of themselves interacting with the standards and blend in a variety of art media on their scrapbooking page to correspond with their teacher’s lesson. It is a process that all teachers and students can inclusively use in the classroom based on our unique Independent Practice activity. Be sure to see our Instructional Model for more information!

heidi-tag.gifHeidi has developed a reputation for excellence in the motivation-to-retention field. She has earned this reputation through simple hard work and by applying the most effective teaching skills and innovative approaches for our customers' distinct classroom and curriculum needs. Heidi holds teaching licenses in Social Studies and Special Education. Over her years of teaching, Heidi has noticed a change in how students make sense of the curriculum and how they relate to teachers and school, in general. In order to motivate all students, Heidi created Scrapbooks That Teach, a business devoted to the instructional process of academic scrapbooking to put the sense of personal back into the classroom life of learning. The hallmark of our outstanding touch-oriented, interactive academic-oriented products is the accessibility for all students and their special needs. Take the plunge and try academic scrapbooking for yourself and see if your students don't remember your lesson better and have a sense of wonderment about it too!

Heidi holds a master's degree in education. She has taught in the secondary classroom for 14 years. She presents at state and local conferences, and was a MetLife Fellow with the Teacher Leadership Network Institute in New York. In October 2007 Heidi was invited to present her academic scrapbooking research to an audience that included members of state and U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. She has developed academic scrapbooking lessons for Teaching American History (TAH), for Save Our History as well as for NEH. All her classroom research in motivation-to-retention is centered on assisting students to retain the curriculum for those high stakes tests every state now uses.  She is recognized as a Who's Who of American Educators and has earned the Special Recognition of Professionals certification from the Council for Exceptional Children. She is a member of NCSS.
